There is a multitude of programming that is geared for children, and most area activities are kid friendly. Reference the activities area for a full listing of family oriented things to do in the Vail Valley. Below is a recap of some favorites and a few kid only diversions.

Adventure Ridge
This is Vail's mountaintop activity center. Catch the Eagle Bahn gondola to Eagle's Nest for food, fun and frolic. In winter enjoy tubing, laser tag, ski-biking, orienteering, snowmobiling for adults and kids, ice-skating and snowshoeing. In summer, add Bocce Ball, mountain biking, disc golf, croquet and much more. The Gondola is free for foot passenger after 2pm. The Art Factory
The Art factory is a full-time art enrichment program for kids ages two and up that provids an opportunity for children to explore art freely in a comfortable and relaxed studio setting. Classes and projects are theme based. Sign up for daily, weekly, or monthly sessions. Located in Edwards in Riverwalk, Garnet Bldg. Suite 211, 970-926-7444

Avon

Avon Log Cabin
The Log Cabin in Avon is the center of activities for Nottingham Park and Lake. In winter, skating is free on the frozen lake and skate rentals are available if needed. Ice hockey, broomball, speed skating and even ice fishing can be found. The Cabin provides a warm indoor place to take a break, food concessions and restrooms. In the summer, paddle boat rentals are available, and watch for the annual fishing derby. Visit www.avon.org or call 970- 748-4280.

The Avon Recreation Center
The Avon Recreation Center is a great place to take the kids. Located at 325 Benchmark Road and open daily, the Center features a giant water slide that empties into a “lazy river,” a lap pool, diving area, hot tub, and kiddie pool. Child care is also available, call 970-748-4060 or visit www.avon.org. to find out about rates and the availability of additional children activities including yoga, diving, swim classes, karate and Friday Afternoon Club.

Nottingham Park
Harry A. Nottingham Park includes 48 acres of open space featuring the lake, athletic fields, a children's playground, picnic tables, barbecue grills and recreation paths for walking, jogging, biking as well as in-line skating.

Beaver Creek Resort
Beaver Creek Resort offers a wide variety of special activities and events from entertainment on the Plaza, ice skating programs, culinary and art festivals as well as children’s workshops and performances. Stop by the Resort Concierge across from the Coyote Cafe to find out what’s coming up, and what’s available, or give them a call at 970-845-9090.

Bowling
The Back Bowl is fun for the whole family in Eagle, located just off the I-70 Eagle Exit in the Eagle Crossing Shopping Center. They’ve got twenty state-of-the-art lanes with optional gutter-guards for the kids, special lighting effects and luxury seating. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park
As described in the Activities section, this is a great family experience. Enjoy spectacular views while riding the Iron Mountain Tramway. Take a guided walking tour of the Glenwood Caverns where you will see amazing stalactite and stalagmite formations. And now—enjoy the new thrill rides—which include the Alpine Coaster, Zip line, Giant Swing and a 35-foot climbing wall. Gore Range Natural Science School
Located in Red Cliff, the Gore Range Natural Science School is Eagle County’s premier source for natural science education. Science camps, school programs and adult outings inspire a lifelong love for learning about Colorado’s Rocky Mountain ecosystem. In wintertime, they feature an all-ages snowshoe tours that start at the Nature Discovery Center atop Vail Mountain exploring winter ecology, animal adaptations and more. Summertime brings day camps for children up to 4th grade with program titles such as “Beavers & Builders” “Five Senses Alive” and “Where the Wild Things Are,” overnight camps for children up to 9th grade sport titles like “Mountain Quest” and “Wilderness Challenge.” Visit: www.gorerange.org, call (970) 827-9725.

Miniature Golf
Two 18-hole miniature golf courses provide a fun way to challenge the whole family. There is a course near the Centennial Lift in Beaver Creek and also in Lionshead. Call for information, 970-476-1121.

Rebound Trampoline
At the base of both Beaver Creek and Vail Mountains, you can enjoy the thrill of bouncing on a trampoline secured with a bungee harness. In Vail find this fun activity in Lionshead near the gondola; in Beaver Creek it is adjacent to the Centennial Lift.

Skating
The Dobson Ice Arena is in Lionshead right across from Vail’s public library. For information on public skating, Learn to Skate classes and Mite, Mini Mite and Squirt hockey programs visit: www.vailrec.com (970) 479-2270. The Ice Rink Center at Beaver Creek is located in the center of the plaza in the Beaver Creek Resort. During the winter, Nottingham Lake, in Avon, freezes over. Skating on the lake is free, and skate rental is available by the hour. Call (970) 949-5648 for more info. Free public skating is also available on the outdoor skating rink at The Vail Nordic Center, located at the Vail Golf Club-weather permitting. Eagle's Nest, at the top of Vail Mountain. offers skating for a fee and skate rental is available. The Eagle-Vail Metro District runs a FREE outdoor skating ring at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion. Give the Eagle-Vail metro District 970-949-1504 a call, before making plans to check the condition of the rink.

Vail Recreation District
Fun! Fun! Fun! That is what the VRD Youth Services is all about. They run the Imagination Station, a children’s museum for ages 2-12, Kidzone Unlimited, which provides after school recreation, and three Camp Vail—summer day camp sessions, not to mention special programs throughout the year. District offers Winter Camp Vail, an all-day camp for groups of 6 or more kids who might need a day off from ski school (ages 6-12) and much more!

Alpine Bank Kid's Camps
These three day camps are for kids ages 7-13.  Riders of all abilities will learn the basics of mountain biking, racing, safety, and bike maintenance, while making new friends and exploring great trails.

Lodge at Lionshead Adventure Camps
After a morning of mountain biking with the kid's camps, stay for the afternoon for more fun and challenging activities. The world class staff takes kids on more mountain biking adventures on Tuesdays, indoor rock climbing on Wednesdays, and a hiking/biking scavenger hunt on Thursdays. The Adventure Camps meet each day after the kid's camps from 11:30-2:30. Bring a sack lunch.

Vail Race Camp
This summer long program is geared for riders ages 10-17.  Meet at Ski and Snowboard Club Vail, where a world class staff will teach riders race strategies, training techniques, bike handling skills, sports nutrition, and bike maintenance, while exploring the best rides and race courses in the Vail Valley.

Vail Youth Center
The Hang Out is a supervised drop-in environment with foosball, pool, rocket hockey, a TV movie lounge and a sound system with a great selection of titles. Located in the balcony above Subway in the Lionshead Parking Structure, ages 6-20 are welcome 3-6pm, after 6pm is for teens only.
