Arts & Culture

The Vail Valley’s cultural and entertainment offerings have evolved and grown over the years into a rich and vibrant scene. There are more than 30 fine art galleries scattered throughout The Valley. The Gerald R. Ford Amphitheatre, with spectacular views of the majestic Gore Range, is the site of fabulous summer entertainment. The Vilar Center for the Arts is located in Beaver Creek and hosts a variety of artistic talents in music, drama, comedy, dance and the visual arts. These venues combined with various festivals and special events year round makes for ample opportunities to satisfy your cultural cravings.

Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival

Each Summer, the Vail Valley Music Festival presents glorious orchestral and chamber music with three leading ensembles in residence each summer, making Vail the major summer home for American ensembles. Begun in 1987, this Festival has grown from entertaining a handful of attendees to an audience of more than 60,000. Each July the Festival produces a free Family Concert, performed at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, featuring world-class musicians and, prior to selected concerts, Performance Preludes feature musical experts in informal talks designed to enlighten audiences and provide an interesting perspective for the evening's featured composers and repertoire. For a schedule of performances and venue information, go to the Calendar of Events page at www.vailmusicfestival.org or call 970-827-5700.

Vail Film Festival

The Vail Film Festival is a relatively new endeavor produced by the Vail Film Institute, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to fostering independent cinema. Founded in 2003, the Vail Film Festival takes place in late March, early April  and is a platform for independent filmmakers to screen their productions—and perhaps enjoy some of Vail’s fabulous spring skiing! The program showcases Feature Films, Shorts, Documentaries, Student Films, Extreme Sports Films, and the unique Television Pilot genre. In conjunction, the Vail Filmmaker Project (VFP) was devised to bring together aspiring filmmakers with screenwriters, directors, and producers, and hosts forums in which established talents lead intensive sessions on all aspects of filmmaking. This fledgling project has been a phenomenal success. For more information visit: www.vailfilmfestival.org.

From the stages of the Vilar Center to the streets of Vail Village and Eagle’s Town Park, the Foundation’s year-round cultural offerings span the length of the entire Vail Valley.
