Arts & Culture The Vail Valley’s cultural and entertainment offerings have evolved and grown over the years into a rich and vibrant scene. There are more than 30 fine art galleries scattered throughout The Valley. The Gerald R. Ford Amphitheatre, with spectacular views of the majestic Gore Range, is the site of fabulous summer entertainment. The Vilar Center for the Arts is located in Beaver Creek and hosts a variety of artistic talents in music, drama, comedy, dance and the visual arts. These venues combined with various festivals and special events year round makes for ample opportunities to satisfy your cultural cravings.The Vilar Center for the Arts The Vilar Center, Beaver Creek’s 530-seat performing and visual arts center, strives for excellence in its diverse programming. Annually, they host a variety of well-known national and international events: classical music, jazz, piano, dance, theater productions, comedy, blues, and much more. The Vilar Center also has many performances for children, including a Family Film Series and Children’s Theatrical Presentations. Vail Valley Music Festival Each Summer, the Vail Valley Music Festival presents glorious orchestral and chamber music with three leading ensembles in residence each summer, making Vail the major summer home for American ensembles. Begun in 1987, this Festival has grown from entertaining a handful of attendees to an audience of more than 60,000. Each July the Festival produces a free Family Concert, performed at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, featuring world-class musicians and, prior to selected concerts, Performance Preludes feature musical experts in informal talks designed to enlighten audiences and provide an interesting perspective for the evening's featured composers and repertoire. Vail Film Festival The Vail Film Festival is a relatively new endeavor produced by the Vail Film Institute, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to fostering independent cinema. Founded in 2003, the Vail Film Festival takes place in late March, early April and is a platform for independent filmmakers to screen their productions—and perhaps enjoy some of Vail’s fabulous spring skiing! The program showcases Feature Films, Shorts, Documentaries, Student Films, Extreme Sports Films, and the unique Television Pilot genre. In conjunction, the Vail Filmmaker Project (VFP) was devised to bring together aspiring filmmakers with screenwriters, directors, and producers, and hosts forums in which established talents lead intensive sessions on all aspects of filmmaking. Vail International Dance Festival This is one of Vail’s most treasured and eagerly anticipated two week summer event that typically spans the end of July through the beginning of August. World renowned talent performing a variety of genres from classical ballet to contemporary choreography and even hip hop at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, an award-winning open-air venue set amid the beauty of Ford Park in Vail. www.vvf.org Vail Jazz Festival Each summer, this event features some of the worlds’ greatest jazz musicians in intimate performance settings. Vail Valley Foundation Since 1981, The Vail Valley Foundation’s mission has been to “Provide athletic, cultural and educational endeavors to sustain and enhance the quality of life in the Vail Valley.” They are responsible for some of the Valley’s most treasured annual events, such as the AEI World Forum, the American Ski Classic and our summer and winter Free Concert Series. From the stages of the Vilar Center to the streets of Vail Village and Eagle’s Town Park, the Foundation’s year-round cultural offerings span the length of the entire Vail Valley. The Ford Amphitheater is home to the Vail International Dance Festival, the Foundation’s popular Bud Light Hot Summer Nights free concert series and 4th of July Patriotic Concert—three long-standing summer traditions in the Vail Valley. Colorado Ski Museum Admission is free to The Colorado Ski Museum/ Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, located on the third floor of the Vail Transportation Center. The Museum showcases historical artifacts from Colorado's rich skiing and snowboard heritage. Exhibits include a timeline of skiing and snowboarding history as well as information about the 10th Mountain Division, a band of extraordinary heroes and skiing pioneers trained at nearby Camp Hale. Eagle County Historical Museum This museum, located in Eagle, is open seasonally and displays a caboose, a store and a blacksmith shop.
